About the Bamyan Family Park
Founded in 2006, the Bamyan Family Park is a unique Afghan landmark that sits below the famous Shar-i-Zohak or Red City. Designed to be a special public space for Afghan families where Afghan women can be comfortably included in picnics or walks outside, the Bamyan Family Park promises to grow into a self-funded cultural center and center of business training that will provide vital and unique programs focused on building Afghan business in the Hazarajat area.
For the last three years, Heather Bellamy and her staff at Global Partners have carved out a unique and beautiful park on government land leased for the next 50 years. Including a restaurant and horticultural garden, with plans for a guest house and agricultural programs, the project promises to become a vital center for cultural revitalization through eco-tourism as well a training center for regional agricultural social enterprise.
PARSA, a 13 year-old international nonprofit organization based in Afghanistan, has now taken over the park to complete the building of infrastructure, develop the training programs, and complete the development of businesses that will sustain the Bamyan Family Park in the future. PARSA’s agreement with Afghan government is that all profit generated from businesses at this historical site will be invested back into programs that will assist Afghans in the Hazarajat to recover economically.
