Thanks to Danny Hilario and the generous alumni of the
American International School of Kabul (AISK), who raised
$1,000, PARSA now has a new generator for the guest house,
gift shop, and administrative offices. The previous generator
was at least eight years old and seemed to require fixing
at least once or twice a week.
To the AISK alumni, Marnie writes…
Dear folks,
Dawn is finally sitting on me to tell the generator
story....we have been waiting for everything to get
fixed....but operations in Afghanistan are the equivalent
of a riot....everyone gets in on the act and nothing
moves....So here we go....We finally got the money....Yasin
bought a beautiful big 15 kilowatt commercial diesel
generator (single cylinder) -- the outcome if which
was that it sounded as if we had a freight train in
our back yard; it took four men to start it....(I thought
that Norm was going to expire trying to do it himself)
and could have provided light for the entire neighborhood.
We have regrouped, assigned a generator committee and
traded this monster in for a 10 kilowatt model based
on a Toyota diesel engine that is being built for us
right now....Sorry for not letting you all know sooner....the
generator is so exciting to us and we do not want to
repeat the experience that Norm and I had of buying
one that lasted four hours and then expired. And we
had no recourse with the merchant....So -- we will send
you a picture as soon as it is here....Meanwhile we
have solved the current energy drain by reverting to
the old-fashioned way of ironing -- we heat them on
the stove.
Love to all...M
