Sabour and His Mother

Sabour and his mother

My name is Sabour and I am 10 years old. I live in Marastoon with my mother. I am her only child. My mother is blind. She has never been able to see me. Telling you the truth, I don't know much about my father. I just know him through my mother's stories. Five years ago my parents moved to Marastoon. My mom says that we did not have anything, no shelter, no food and nobody who could take care of us. My father had a disability. One of his feet was shorter that the other. He could hardly walk. Amidst all the problems the family was facing, my father married a widow who already had eight kids and left my blind mother and me alone at Marastoon.

Our hard life became even harder once we found ourselves alone. I could feel the hardships my mother had gone through to raise me. Two years later my father came back to home. He was old, older than the last time I saw him. He promised he would stay with us forever, but after a day he told me that he was going to buy something for me. I waited days and nights but he never returned.

Sabour

I used to think a lot about my father, but now things have changed a lot. I go to school. I am in 4th grade. I have made a lot of friends and enjoy going to school. I am studying hard and am planning to become a pilot in the future. Once I become a pilot I will go to different places. I will take my mother and we both will fly to different countries. My dream is to find a good job so my mother wouldn't worry about the future. I want to do all the works by myself and ask her to rest. I will buy her a house, somewhere far from Marastoon. In Afghanistan, I would love to go to Kandahar because my aunt lives there. She is so kind to me. I wish my father was as kind as my aunt.

English is my favorite subject in school. I play soccer with my friends on weekends. I would love to have a ball myself so I could play anytime I wanted, but unfortunately I don't have one yet. Hopefully I will get one once I became a pilot!
